Thanks to the passing of the 1974 freedom of information act by the United States Congress, it was made possible for anyone in the nation to be able to obtain their personal records to see exactly what type of information the government was maintaining about them.

While today you are able to obtain copies of birth certificates and criminal records, this was not always the case. The original freedom of information act put many limitations on what one could consider one’s right to know.

The freedom of information was developed on a federal level, and much like any other act that is in existence today, the different states have their own version of this particular one. Each state’s concept of what is one’s right to know is different and therefore obtaining the information can prove to be a difficult task it or not for the Internet. Online you can access Oregon public records such as Oregon criminal records, search court records, driving records online, find people in Oregon and do a nationwide or statewide Oregon criminal background check on someone with access to public records.

No one is perfect, and sometimes are public records may have errors or omissions in them which can affect your daily life. Like this and many other reasons you have turned to the Internet to obtain copies of your public records to determine what is wrong, what needs to be rectified as well as the type of information the your local government has been keeping on you.
