People wish to do free background checks and look at peoples criminal records for plenty of reasons. Step 1
Before searching for a person’s background, you should seek permission from that person. There are many states where it is illegal to get somebody’s background check without his/her permission. They will ask you to submit a signed statement taken from that person and usually it has to be notarized as well. The statement should state that the person whom the search is being conducted on is aware about the check and that he/she has given them the permission to do it.

Step 2
You can easily obtain the information about that person. Information contains the full name of the person, race and age as well. You can narrow down the search by providing other noticeable information like scars or tattoos etc.

Step 3
Go to the state corrections site, state Dept of Public Safety and or the FBI and locate the page that says something like record check or criminal history lookup. The page will have few terms and conditions and you have to agree with the conditions. Once you agree to these conditions, you can put the information that you have in different fields and do the search.

Step 4
Put in the complete information about the person. This will usually be the person’s name, state, city, ssn and even date of birth. Then you will hit search for results. When you think you have found the person’s criminal record, it will give you the list of all the charges and convictions that are held against the person. But if a person is just accused but never charged or never sentenced, then the chances are that the records will not be listed. You will have to search other types of public records for that information such as police blotter section of your newspaper.

Step 5
While you may want to research your own criminal record, if you see that there is some incorrect information in the records, then you can call the state correction agency. After reviewing it, the agency will remove the wrong information from your records. It is due to this reason that you should go for your research as well and get your record corrected if something is wrong.

Some states will let you get check peoples criminal history for free if your a non for profit, teachers, day care centers and more. Their are some times subscription fees, administrative fees etc that you will have to pay to look at and print out somebody’s criminal report. You can also find criminal record data bases online that will let you check out another person’s records almost instantly. You can get a criminal report of someone and look at peoples history, sometimes it is free but mostly not. And you remember the saying you get what you pay for. If it’s you get free background checks criminal records then usually it’s just basic information.
